As soon as we need to round numbers to the nearest whole number, the number we are rounding with certainty is decimal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rule for rounding to the nearest integer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When rounding a decimal number to the nearest whole number, you should:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First we perceive the digit that is in the first decimal place of the decimal number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the digit is 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 (less than 5), then we round the number to the whole number that precedes it, that is, we do not change the whole part of the decimal number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the digit is 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 (5 or greater than 5), then we round the number to the whole number that follows (greater than the given one), that is, we add +1 to the units place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In short, the entire decimal part of the number remains the same if the first decimal is from 0 to 4, or we increase it by +1 if the first decimal is from 5 to 9!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Examples<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-purple-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Example 1: Which whole number is closest to the given decimal number below?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-vivid-purple-color has-text-color has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">4.7<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-purple-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">The number 4.7 contains the digit 7 in the first decimal place. Because 7 is a greater number than 5, it follows that we will add +1 to the units placed in the number 4.7 (4+1=5). Therefore, when rounding the number 4.7, we get the number 5!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Example 2: Round the decimal number to the nearest whole number!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">18,24<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">The number 18.24 contains the digit 2 in the first decimal place. Because 2 is a smaller number than 5, it follows that we do not change the units digit in the number 18.24. That&#8217;s why when rounding the number 18,24 we get the number 18!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-purple-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Example 3: What is the nearest whole number to the given decimal number below?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-vivid-purple-color has-text-color has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">25,693<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-purple-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">The number 25,693 contains the digit 6 in the first decimal place. Because 6 is a greater number than 5, it follows that we will add +1 to the units placed in the number 25 (5+1=6). That&#8217;s why when rounding the number 25,693 we get the number 26!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Example 4: Which whole number is closest to the given decimal number below?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">731.5386<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">The number 731.5386 contains the digit 5 in the first decimal place. Because 5 is equal to 5, it follows that we will add +1 (1+1=2) to the units placed in the number 731.5386.
