On this page you will see how to simplify fractions before multiplying them, thus avoiding the procedure of simplifying them after obtaining the final product. This method is easier because, at the moment before multiplication, it is easier to see which specific number can be simplified. After all, the numbers we are working with are still relatively smaller here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Simplifying fractions before multiplication<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When multiplying two fractions, you can simplify as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We locate the numbers that, when the fractions are placed for multiplication, build an imaginary &#8220;diagonal&#8221;. Such two diagonals build:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The numerator of the first fraction and the denominator of the second fraction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The denominator of the first fraction and the denominator of the second fraction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below, the two different imaginary diagonals are marked in the image with different colors!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.matematikazavsicki.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/A-formula-for-simplifying-fractions-before-multiplying-them.jpg\" alt=\"A formula for simplifying fractions before multiplying them\" class=\"wp-image-732\" width=\"195\" height=\"176\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the numbers that make up the diagonal have a greatest common divisor that is different from 1, then we divide both numbers by their GCM and write the quotient in their place. Therefore, we divide both numbers by the number 5. We divide the two numbers from the red diagonal by the number 3!
